Empty Street designed and built the BioSource websites and groundbreaking online applications.
The site featured the world's best custom Oligos/DNA ordering system, which we built from scratch. Researchers were able to build highly complex DNA products online which were automatically sent to gene sequencers, created, packaged, and shipped.
The project was built on a foundation of Microsoft SQL Server and ASP. The client appreciated the advantage of a custom programmed solution, as we were able to quickly and significantly add to the project capabilities at minimal cost as the importance of the system grew. The system became responsible for a majority of the DNA division's growth and revenue. The initial costs of development were recouped within 2 quarters.
We also designed and built the main BioSource corporate website, which included a high end SQL Server driven product database, personalized experience, and content management system.
The websites included a highly customized search engine which searched product information, hidden keyword fields, and searched Adobe Acrobat documents. The results were intelligently filtered according to a set of complex rules designated by BioSource, giving researchers a kind of "Artificial Intelligence" system that provided the most relevant results for the type of customer browsing the website.
BioSource was acquired by another company in 2005.
